Travel Discount campaign 2023/ 全国旅行支援の再開

Japan to restart travel discount program on Jan. 10 after year-end break

The Japan Tourism Agency said Tuesday it will restart its nationwide travel discount program on a reduced scale on Jan.
10 after a suspension during the year-end and New Year’s holidays.

Until December 27, the Nationwide Travel Discount campaign provides residents of Japan with a 40% discount on travel expenses (used to be 35% under Go To Travel) with an upper limit of 8,000 yen for travel plans that contain transport services or 5,000 yen for other plans (used to be 14,000 yen for all plans under Go To Travel). The value of the travel coupons is a fixed 3,000 yen on weekdays or 1,000 yen on weekends (used to be 15% of the total cost under Go To Travel).
The campaign is limited to travelers who are vaccinated at least three times (some prefectures require only two doses for local residents) or have tested negative in a recent PCR test.
From 2023, the discount rate will be reduced from 40% to 20% and the upper maximum from 8,000 to 5,000 yen for plansthat contain transport services and from 5,000 to 3,000 yen for other plans. The value of travel coupons will be 2,000yen on weekdays and 1,000 yen on weekends. The campaign is expected to continue through March 2023.
